Bill Aitken is a naturalized Indian born in Clackmannanshire, Scotland. He attended grammar school in Birmingham and studied Comparative Religion at Leeds University. In 1959 he set out to see for himself the world's religions and hitchhiked as far as Kolkata when he realised he didn't have to go any further. 12 years were spent in Himalayan ashrams until he found life in Mussoorie much more to his liking. It became his base for travels around the subcontinent. He writes about things he loves including the Himalaya, steam locomotives, sacred rivers, motorbikes and Sai Baba.
